Firefly is the name of a fictional spacefaring science fiction universe created by Joss Whedon and co-created by his wife and writing partner, Teresa Choi. It debuted on television in the short-lived Fox series Firefly (2002-2003), and became the namesake of the new television franchise, Serenity, which aired from 2005 to 2009.
The show is set in a fictional universe in which the individuals, known as "Inhumans," are imprisoned on a penal facility known as "The Reclamation," or "Earth," which is located on the edge of space. Earth has been cut off from civilization for many years, and its inhabitants have developed a number of ways to escape their predicament:
The first was launched by the crew of the starship Serenity: a ship that runs under the radar of the authorities and the crew of the Reclamation Station. The other new residents of the Reclamation Station are Mal (Jayne), Simon, River, and Inara.
Its pilot episode. As Serenity gets closer to the Reclamation Station, the crew begin to realize that the Reclamation's forces are increasingly confused about the purpose of the ship. There is one exception: Captain Tracey Andrianos of the Reclamation Station, who is more keenly interested in finding out about "Project Genesis."
Many more characters will later arrive to the Reclamation Station, including a rebel crew with a fugitive pilot on board, the Wookiee Wash and his friends, members of an organization known as the New Republic, and a clone of the former owner of the Serenity and former captain, Jayne. Other characters will visit the station, as well.
Real life locations were used for the filming of the show, such as "Riverland", filmed in the town of Gansett, Rhode Island. Many sets were also constructed on stage and in warehouses in Vancouver, British Columbia. This is especially true of the set in the Serenity's cargo hold, in which Wash and the other crew members were made to take their seats.
In the first season of the television show Serenity, the crew of the ship Serenity is scattered on a three-month supply mission to the planet Tranquility. Mal and Inara are the first to arrive to the planet. Their mission is to search for River Tam, who has been stolen by Inhumans. Simon meets his father there, but his first priority is to rescue his sister
